Here’s what you can expect on the Food Challenge Prize Showcase Day, Saturday, February 6th

8:00 am – 10:00 am: Set-up

  • Teams may start setting up their presentations at 8:00 am in the CBA Events Room 3.304 in the McCombs School of Business building (CBA) and must be ready by 10:00 am.
  • Each team will be provided a 6ft x 3ft table on which to set up their presentation.
  • Presentations must be self-supporting on the table – teams will not be able to secure any posters to the wall. Here’s a list of ideas to help your presentation table stand out:
    • A table cover or skirt that complements your presentation color scheme
    • Flyers or print literature with specific details on your presentation
    • Prototypes or samples of your product
    • A table-top display to prominently show your team’s logo
    • Wi-Fi will be available in the event space with a code provided during setup.

10:00 am – 1:00 pm: Judging

  • The format of the initial judging will be informal. The judges will visit with you at your table, ask questions, and offer you a chance to demonstrate your product or service.
  • Judges will be walking around the room in no particular order and will make short 7-9 minute visits at each team’s presentation table.
  • Each team should be prepared to discuss their business to the judges within 7 minutes, leaving the other 1- 2 minutes for questions. Remember to review the judging criteria and make sure you include highlights for each criteria in your conversations with the judges.

1:00 pm – 2:00 pm: Lunch

  • Each team will have one hour to break for lunch. During this time, the judges will narrow down the field to the top 10 teams that will then advance to the final fast pitches.
  • Lunch will be provided for all teams.

2:00 pm – 2:15 pm: Top 10 Announced

  • ALL teams must submit a 3-minute PowerPoint or PDF presentation in the event that they are one of the Top 10 Finalists chosen for the fast pitches.
  • Your PowerPoint or PDF presentation file MUST be compatible on a PC computer. If your presentation contains any videos, it is your responsibility to ensure that the video file is formatted to play on a PC.
  • Please submit your team’s PowerPoint or PDF file to trammie.anderson@austin.utexas.edu no later than 10:00 am on Saturday, February 6, 2016.

2:15 pm – 2:45 pm: Top 10 Fast Pitches

  • If you are selected as one of the top 10 finalists, you will have 3 minutes on stage to make a fast pitch to all judges and attendees.
  • Your fast pitch presentation will be loaded on the computer in the room.
  • There will be a clicker with a laser pointer for you to advance to the next slide.
  • We will hold up “1-minute” and “30 seconds” signs to help keep you on time.
  • The room is set-up open lecture style with a podium and mic.

2:45 pm – 4:00 pm: Awards Ceremony and Reception

  • After the pitches the judges will make the final decisions and select the winners
  • Judges will then announce the winners and prizes
  • 3:30 pm – 4:00 pm - All teams are welcome to join in the celebration and reception to conclude the 2016 Food+City Challenge Prize.
